Hello,
This is my first post. My name is Ryan and I’m looking for what is commonly referred to as the ‘projector girl’ or the ‘Kodak girl’. She is usually found during the head or tail leader and sometimes in the countdown. I am looking her in either 16mm or 35mm film, with the flash frames and other color balance frames plus a three frame handle. I’m looking for as many different girls as possible. I will pay reasonable amount of money for each girl or each frame, depending on condition and or rarity. If anyone has interesting stories, explanations, or other oddities about the ‘projector’ girl I’d love to hear them.
You can contact me pulldownclaw@yahoo.com
thanx,
ryan

Hi Ryan,
Wow - this is a first! I know I've got lots of "girls", but I wouldn't even know where to begin looking (other than focusing on color prints of course).
Maybe if you could set up a web site or something showing us the ones you have, I'll try and keep an eye out for the ones you don't as I screen new prints (or re-screen old ones). Could be kind of fun - maybe we could start naming the girls to keep track of them! :)

Hi Mike,
Yeah, that would be great if you could keep an eye out for any ‘projector girl.’ My understanding is that the photo is actually film shot of the subject. The model would sit for three minutes, the film would be exposed, and then printed on the stock without having to rewind the printer, therefore every frame is technically different. However this was one controlled story told to me by an elder lad technician. I’m sure different labs, different studios, or different models handled it a bit different. I have three of the lady in my attachment (1) <the attachment> her eye’s are closed and she partially smiling (2) her eyes are open and she is not smiling (3) eye’s open and she smiling, showing teeth.
A web site would be very cool. But, I’m fairly new to computer technology. Maybe after I’ve gathered quite a few I could learn how to set a web page up. Thanks again for your interest.

If I'm not mistaken, these are popularly referred to as China Girls in the trade. I, too, have noted that the appearance of the model changes from time to time. It'd be very cool to be able to get enough frames to re-assemble the original sequence.
I had a friend who collecting these several years ago for an art piece, but I have no idea what happened to the frames he accumulated. Wish I had them now.
It's such a drag to see the leader that uses a mannequin, or worse, just a color chart.
Good luck!
