Well, after getting my JAN AQ-4A(1) off of E-bay several months ago, I guess it is time to DO something with it to make it work. The optical sound works great after replacing the tubes in the power amp and cleaning the gears, chains, etc. It plays audio fine. .
Here is my "WANT LIST" ...
1. I need a set of "TAKE-UP" and "REWIND" belts. The kind that replace the old "SPRING" type. The ones I have still work, but they look a little "LONG IN THE TOOTH". I think they are the "rubber over cotton type" like the Kodak Pageant used for take-up.
2. A "SPRING PLATE" for the film gate. Since I have only the the aperture plate with no spring plate, focus is kinda hard to achieve in this regard. I pawed though my garage junk and found a Viewlex f 1.2 50mm lens to replace the standard Devry f 1.6 lens that came with the projector. A friend of mine found it at a garage sale !!
NOW, Here is the tough item I need ..
The pulley on the projector that supplies the take-up torque to the take-up reel is missing the roller clutch guts. In other words, the pulley rotates in "BOTH" directions. I believe it is a "ONE WAY" ball bering clutch. When in "TAKE-UP" mode, it grabs. When in "REWIND or REVERSE" mode, it's free wheeling. Since the innards of my pulley is missing the parts and is free in "BOTH" directions, I had to mount a washer off of the drive stud to "LOCK" the pulley so I can achieve "TAKE-UP". Have to remove the spring belt from the supply side to do any rewind function. A REAL PAIN.
Any thoughts on this ??
