I have been saving my milk money for many months and have accumulated the captioned amount. I have Toshiba 1800
w/ DVD-R, HP Pavilion 8566 w/ DVD-R, and a MAC G-4 w/ DVD-R DVD-RW. I would buy a player if more satisfactory.
What would be your choice if you had up to $3500 to spend?
90% usage for Home theater DVD movies. !0% possible presentation usage- computer screen, photos, VHS, etc.
Is the least cost WXGA yield better result than an equivalent priced XGA for home theater use?
I have been reading descriptions for a year- thoroughly confusticated- - - sure wish there was someplace (near Indy
or Chi one could see demos) Maybe there is and I not found 'em.

I'll be in the market for a projector in the medium term. Given that Sony are shipping HS20s hopedfully I can expect a hefty price drop on the HS10s (which look pretty decent from what I've seenon my friend's model).

I just purchased the Infocus X1 projector on the net for $964.00 I can't wait. I've wanted one of these for a long time. I still have a Sony 52" I like very much, but for movies this should be a real treat. Thanks for the info.

Gerald,
I'm not impressed with the specs on that Sony -- have you seen it in action? It's light output is only 1400 lumens, and it's LCD. I think you'd be much better off with a DLP with more light output -- especially if you are looking to spend $3500...

NO NO I bought an Infocus projector. I've had the sony for almost ten years. It is a good performing rear projection TV.

I've seen the HS-10 in action and it looks pretty damned good. Would I swap my film projector for one? Of course not. Looks mighty fine fer DVDs though. DLP has better contrast ratio sure and looks fine...so long as you can keep your eyes open for 90 minutes without blinking. Otherwise, look forward to lots of horrible colour blur, which looks particularly nice on b/w DVDs :) How much are 4x colour wheel models these days? The whole color wheel thing on single chip DLPs just seems doomed to early failure to me. At least with an HS10 or HS20 you're getting 3 genuine discrete colour channels (with no moving parts) and not just the bottom of some kid's kalaeidoscope spinning in front of a light bulb.

Hi Fred -- I was talking to Gerald -- he mentioned a Sony LCD projector - Sony VPL-HS20 which I wasn't impressed with...
Let us know how you like the Infocus -- I've got a Sharp PG-M20x which I really like, but I'm considering getting a second projector and really want to see the Infocus to determine how it stacks up to the Sharp (it's about $600 cheaper)...

Hi David --
I wouldn't swap my film projector either -- but that's not the question...
DLPs with 3x and 4x wheels don't have any problem - at least not that I've noticed.
I can't stand the LCDs that I've seen - sharpness and contrast have always been so-so at best...
