There is a new update for the INFOCUS X-1. The version 4.1 software is available from the INFOCUS.com website. It allows you to use the lamp for 4000 hours!! Apparently, field tests are showing that the lamp often is good for long after the 3000 hour limit on the meter. Another fix involves the use of progressive scan dvd player through the computer input with better results.
I have 3.8 on my machine and it is VITAL for improved picture quality and less rainbows--improves sync on all sources.
Careful, though....failed attempts to upload software to the unit can result in a non-warranty visit to the factory to get the unit going again. If you have to have it in for a checkup or service to Infocus in Oregon, I would make sure they upgrade your unit.
An alternative would be when the unit has 1000 hours on the lamp, to unplug and replug the lamp and reset the meter on the menu---this way the meter would stop at a total of 4000 hours. Seems hard to believe an arc lamp like these is good for such a long life. (fyi---the DLP chip is rated at 75,000 hours!)
