Looking for Fairchild Super 8mm "Moviepak" cartridges. These were mostly commercial / industrial continuous loop movies in a large VHS style cartridge that was used in their portable self contained S8 players dating from the late 60s through the early 80s. These carts can be user filled with S8, so I'd like to give it a try. Just need one if that's all I can find. E-mail me at kawninja@cableone.net and thanks much!

Steve,

These seem to be pretty scarce, but if you really get stuck, send me an email at petergoed@optusnet.com.au.

Hello:
I have about 150 of these cartridges. We recently purchased a building full of stuff froman old Pontiac Dealer. We have whats called a Pontiac "mini Theater" which is what these are played in, ours does not work properly and we know nothing about them. I have been looking to figure out if there is anything else we can play them in, I have come up with the fairchild super 8 player as the thing I should be looking for. Can anyone help me, I am selling some of the tapes but I really would love to watch some of them too, this is turning into an education in super 8. I am new to this and I am attempting to attach a photo or 2, I hope it works.
Look forward to any who can help me,
Connie Barrett

Hi Connie,

Welcome to the Forum! Glad to have you with us.

I acquired a number of these same cartridges a few years ago from an old Chrysler dealer (although the shape and size of your cartridges appear to be slightly different). Mine contained 200' of Super 8mm magnetic sound film on an aluminum "reel" enclosed within a rounded plastic cartridge that was squared-off on the end that was inserted into the machine. You're lucky that you also have the unit to play these on. Does it still work? Since I didn't have access to a machine, I opened up the cartridges (which was very easy), wound the 8mm film onto a "normal" reel, and then transferred the reels to digital video. We color corrected since the color in the films had faded to glorious "Eastman pink". If you're into cars and "how to sell cars", these little film cartridges are real GEMS! I dated the films to around 1971-1974. GREAT footage of late-model Chrysler products. Long-story-short, the film cartridges are worth salvaging if you can do it.

Again, welcome to the forum and keep us posted!

Russ

Thanks for your response, these are all about Pontiacs and yes we do have an interest in viewing them. Our projector did not work, it shows frames but when you press the go button it starts to go faster then shuts off, so we are looking for another projector, I have seen a couple on e-bay but you never know if they are going to work or not. I have found a person who says the fairchild super 8 will work on them, in fact I am selling a few of them to him. Let me know if you can find me a projector.
Thanks!
