A member gets a second square when their point level goes over 100.
Thanks for explaining Dave.
Wowza!
Congrats Rich! I told you that we all love your posts!!:)

Dave,
Given these classes that you set up:
User is on a distinguished road 10
User will become famous soon enough 50
User has a spectacular aura about 150
Why when you roll over the green sqaure for my post(s) does it show "Distinguished Road", when it should show "Famous"? I have more than 50 points.
Also, I think the furor has died down and nobody is really using this feature anyway. I know I haven't gotten any points or ratings since right after it was turned on and we were arguing about it's virtues. Do you have logs to indicate use among users?

Jeff,
You have a valid point.
I feel like I am the only one voting so I decided to stop for a while.

I think the feature is working out nicely for those participating.
Linda, I see no need to stop so long as you are giving honest ratings to the posts you like/dislike.
I also have to thank Dave for giving members the option to opt out of the program. This certainly has relieved the discomfort here.

I stopped because it seems I have not received recent ratings in a while. :(
I use to rate several times a week to posts that stood out.
I know several of you have much more knowledge than I do and I am continually learning. But, I feel if I keep giving honest ratings to members, they will get two or three squares and I will still be stuck with one! Kinda bums me out.:(

Be careful what you wish for. No, it wasn't me.

I notice more and more people have a little black square rather than a little green square, which means many are opting out of this system. I haven't recieved any points for weeks since this thread was active, so I think it's safe to say this feature does nothing and most are dis-interested in using it, especially the more active names, whose squares are black. Just offering an observation.

It makes it hard to "give reputation" when many have opted out of the system. So, when I "try" to give a positive feedback on someone's brilliant post, I am told to spread it around. Well, how can I spread it around when so few are participating now???
Also, since I am not as well educated as the majority of you are, in this area (but I do my best posting remarks), I too (as Jeff mentioned) have not gotten any more points!:(

IMHO: It's just a waste of time with no positive benefit and room for abuse, hence I opted out. I you are on a "mission" to get lot's of little green boxes, that's your prerogative - but I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. I'm not giving "feedback" and don't expect any in return.

No, that's not my quest. I was just offering an opinion that most of the "power" users have opted out and was stateing my opinion that it seems to be a failure. I had no mission to obtain hundreds of points.

Untill you guys had brought it up again, I had forgotten it was there.
I haven't opted out so have a heyday with me. It makes little difference.

You were right people, this feature is totally worthless. When I offered my opinion that the feature was not working because too many users were disabling with a black square, somebody gave me a negative on that message (why is that?). When I further said I wasn't out to get points, just offering an opinion that so many people were opting out, someone else gave me another negative on that message! That's just ridiculous.
I'm joining the ranks of "black square" people. I'll have nothing more to do with it.
Dave, I recommend you turn the feature off. Even your co-administrators have opted out and don't use it.

Jeff,
Good for you! I agree that this whole reputation thing is a waste of everyone's time and I don't care how many negative doolollies I get for saying so!
NYAH!

I checked back to the first page of this thread and noticed that it has been EXACTLY one month since Dave announced this new "feature". Although this seems to be a very hot topic, it seems to me that EVERYONE has an option available to them, and that almost everyone has expressed an opinion about it. I have quietly refrained...until now. So, to use a now time-worn cliche/quote, "Can't we all just get along?" ...and move on to what's really important..... FILM !

Somehow my "Reputation" setting got changed so that it's enabled again(!). I just went to User CP to turn it OFF again, and the option is gone.
What's up Dave? How do I disable this feature?

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble opting out Mike. That is frustrating.
Maybe I am asking for bad rep points, (not that I care) but this thread has been more of a waste of time than the actual feature for me. I almost never even bother with the feature, nor do I really care about it as of yet. I have only checked my reputation out of curriosity because of this thread, and it was no help. No one has left any meaningful feedback on it for me to use. I feel that this thread should be banned more than the feature. To me this thread is the problem. It wastes our time talking about film and needlessly makes the reputation feature stigmatized.
