The feature is worthless. That's why I and others have turned it off. I think you'll notice more black squares than colored ones now. Sort of tells you something.

You should always choose a color that people will have no trouble reading. I mean what's the sense of leaving messages in a color no one can read?

It is allowed since I am also an Associate Producer and we filmed part of "Soft Money" where I work.
