Hello All,
I am new to the forum and this would be my first post.
I am looking for a small 35mm film projector. I have aquired some 35mm movie trailers and would like to set up something small in my home or office just to view them. I just dont know where to start. I do have a old Argus Model B 35mm projector. I place it on my desk and project on the wall about 6 feet away. This works ok for me but it has a manual crank to move the film. I was looking for something this size but automatic. Ive seen some on eBay but not sure if spending $500-$1000 on a projector would be Overkill. Could anyone point me in the right direction as far as what would be a good small starting equipment (new/used). Sound would not be a requirement. Thanks and all the best. Rudy

I too though of getting into 35mm projection until I found out what the costs are. The 35mm theater projectors are large and, if old, require maintenance to get them going. I looked at portable 35mm projectors still made in Italy and China. They go from around $1500-2000 up to $5-6000. Way too much to look at some trailers. Occassionally, some old military "portable" 35mm machines come on the market. If you just want to look at some of the film, use an old 35mm strip projector that shcools use to use and can be had cheaply on Ebay. Dukane is a major name maker.

Dave is right about the old milatary portables. I think he's referring mostly to the DeVry machines. I don't know to much about these machines myself but there are many people that use them. There are other small machines, such as Holmes. I also have a Holmes "Educator", which was my first 35mm machine. It is truly table top sized, but mine is incomplete, having no reel arms, amplifier, or lamp.
I do know of someone that I believe has a Simplex SP, which is the machine I use, for sale for around $500, complete and ready to run film. This machine is a "suitcase sized" portable that sets up on a 4 leg floor stand.

Hello: My 35mm portable projector, Köders 35,made in Spain by Wassmann, with a built in amplifier, measures 35x35x28 cms. (aprox. 14x14x11"). I have no pics of mine but from a Minikino 35, a newer version of it, a bit taller ( the amplifier at the bottom) and with some slight differences (lamphouse and exciter lamphouse) besides painting (mine is hammerite grey). I think it´s the smallest portable or one of the smalests ever made, similar to a Bell&Howell TQ1 16mm projector.

I saved those pics from an Ebay auction at Ebay Germany. There are mainly TK 35 machines. Also at Ebay France and Ebay Italy there are from time to time portable projectors. I´ll look if I have the final prices registered on my computer.

Hi: You can get these reels on Germany at Wittner for both spindle sizes. Here´s the link:
http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de/katalog/01_archi/a_spulen.php
Yes, both Westar and Proyecson portables, as also Fumeo and I think Prevost (beside their proper current model P86 LX 1600H) are chinese made machines, very cheap if you can get them directly from factory (I was told that the basic model halogen lamp 16mm portable projector costs around $600!!!). But every brand makes their modifications. In this case Proyecson manufactures 6.000 feet reel arms with direct torque motor or a tower for 5.000 meters reels and also the 2.000 watts xenon lamphouse version, including an analog reverse scan.
