View Full Version : Why so many moderators?

Of late, I've noticed a tremendous increase of moderators.. So many that some threads look more like a moderator convention than a casual discussion of members.
Why so many? Is the forum getting out of hand that more enforcemers of the rules are needed? Have I missed something?

I shouldn't answer for Dave, but I was told that it was intended to identify a group of guys (total 10 including Administrator(s)) with divergent and complementary skills and interests to keep the discussion lively, assist newbies, and cover for eachother in case anyone actually has to work at his business from time to time thus preventing full attention to the forum. It is amusing, though, when you get 5 moderators in a row chiming in.

We realize that a few of us will sometimes "answer in a row" depending on the circumstance. However we are aware of this and are currently addressing the issue.

This site had 3 administrators and 10 moderators now. Do these 10 moderators have certain areas they control, and if so, could we have a list posted? What powers do they have? Can they delete posts and remove people from this site? Moderators are a great idea, but 10 sounds a bit extreme for a site this size….but what do I know?
Hi Jayson,
Actually there are 2 administrators (Dave and Steven) and eight (8) moderators. The question of why 8 moderators would best be put to Dave Harris. However, I feel he wants this eFilmForum to become much larger and as such, the moderators are to help keep things going. I don't like censorship and I hope that policy remains in tack.
Right now, we are still in a shake out mode on how much the moderators respond.
Even though I am a moderator, I feel that I will help in a thread where I have some technical knowledge or ways to helping the thread alone. I am sure other moderators will do the same so I would not take it as something heavy handed, but really a continuation of the way things were.

I gotta agree that it looks pretty silly. Every other message is tagged "Moderator". I know Dave took on a new group of moderators, as he also asked me to join, but I declined for lack of time. I think perhaps Dave should just turn off the "Moderator" tag, and let his new crew do what they have been asked to do without having the label. Plus it will make all the other messages look less like a "Moderator Convention". Frankly it does look rather stupid and perhaps gives the wrong idea.

Just because someone has a moderator tag doesn't mean they are moderating. I don't even look at the tags most of the time. Remember, even the old lady who works at McDonalds needs some break in time. I suggest that everyone wait a month to see how this pans out, then start the bitchin'.

Greetings
I agree with James. We should wait a month to see how this pans out, and then start the bitchin'. Also the tag of Moderator For the new people and the guests that come to our forum it gives meaning to those, That this is well organized site. Like the others (do not) not to be mentioned.
And the welcome to new members I feel that it’s a good idea that we do acknowledge the newbie’s, for the connection of this form. And the people in it. Its shows That we are Careing on other peoples Thoughts and Questions on eFilmForum our great site.

Well, Richard, I would be a lot bloody happier if Dave had picked on some moderators that could actually put a sentence together and learn to spell.
Having been a member here since God only remembers, but it was from 1998/9, I feel that the site was going fine, without the additional burden of so many MODERATORS.
Just my 1/2 a cent worth.

 Holy Moly! I feel like we are some creatures of slime!
Instead of wearing "L"on my chest for Linda, I guess I should be wearing an "M"!!:D

Sorry, Linda, but I have been watching the site deteriorate before my eyes over the past several months, and I don't think that adding a bucketfull of moderators is any meaningful answer.

Nothing of the sort Linda.
It just appears as an overabundance.. overkill

I agree. We (everyone on the Forum AND the Moderators) all need some "transition time" as we all get used to this change that Dave has implemented. Shouldn't we ALL be dedicated to making this forum the best it can be?

I would be a lot bloody happier if you would quit picking on people because they don't take the time to check their spelling. It's a fact that the human brain automatically makes the proper corrections so that you can understand what the other person is trying to say.

James, when posting on a forum, a knowledge of at least some basic grammatical structure and checking of spelling is simple common courtesy. I also disagree about your comment on the human brain. It DOES take longer to parse an incorrectly spelled or ungrammatical sentence.

Geez, why are so many people uptight here? Nobody is changing the world on this forum, what we do here is inconsequential, so let's not make this some stuffy hobbyist clique.
Hate to break it to you fellas, but at the end of the day, it's just a message board about movies, not world politics.
It's about to be Friday, the sun is shining where I am, the beer is cold, you're alive and breathing, it's all good.

I received an email from a friend that was being passed around and every word was misspelled. I was able to read the complete paragraph. I'm not stating an opinion, but a fact. I agree that it would be nice if everyone would use spell check, but maybe a private message so as not to embarrass the offender would be nice.
