I was going through some old things and I found it. Apart from
being dirty it looks ok. It's a shame for me to throw it away, but I don't
have a place to keep it. I will be pleased to give it away. Anybody interested?
I live near Chicago.
Please let me know ASAP.

Can you pick it up at my place, since you're from NY and I'm from Chicago? I don't think sending it would make much sense, it's very heavy.
Off topic:
"PMed" - don't laugh too loud :), but tell me please what does it mean

"PM" means to send a Private Message via the forum's user-to-user messaging system. I sent you a "PM" regarding my interest in your projector. Please read the PM and let me know if we can work something out.

Ken: If you are an antique movie projector buff, then ok. Otherwise the cost of shipping that heavy two piece projector that distance is going to be about half of what you could buy a much newer working projector off eBay, such as a Elmo CL16, or Eiki slot load. Maggie's free offer is a great one for a projector collector who can pick it up and do whatever necessary to clean it up and get it running in working condition. It may be only good enough for parts.

I do not know much about them, but wanted something to start with.. I've read here that I can pick one up for less than $100 or so, but haven't found what appear to be any particularly good deals on eBay in the past week or so. I think mass use of projectors died out before I was even born, so I need some guidance here...

Dave:
You are right. That's why I mentioned my place of staying. If anybody is from around Chicago, might as well take the projector but otherwise the cost of shipping is too great for a thing of unknown condtion.
Hope the projector will find the owner soon.

Ken,
Take your time and something will show up, either on ebay or elsewhere. Since I began collecting 16mm I have kept a slight eye on the local classified scene. Try checking your N.Y. craigslist at
http://newyork.craigslist.org/
and look under FOR SALE and PHOTO+VIDEO. Search word 16mm and there is a vintage projector listed right now but they want $125. Kinda steep perhaps, but maybe not. Usually (in L.A.) within a one month period, I see five or six listings for projectors in all kinds of conditions with different price ranges, some at times for $20 just so they can get rid of it and get something back for there time spent.
If you are involved with a church, temple, or even if you have befriended the school video guy, you might find a projector sitting in a closet somewhere they are willing to part with for free (perhaps promise them a movie night!).

Thanks to everyone for their advice.
I ended up going with this one, and would like to know whether or not you'd say it was a good deal?

The Elmo 16-CL is a slot loading projector, right? It seems to be favored here if I'm correct? Hope I picked out something good..

Ken,
It is a slot load, although I don't know those projectors. As with any machine, it WILL eventually need some kind of maintenance.
Somewhere within this forum, I believe Administrator Dave's father and a friend put together a nice set of manuals. However, I understand some butthead's stole it, edited it and are selling it as there own. Someone here may know how to purchase the manual(s) for that machine with due respect to the TRUE guys who put the diligence into bringing them about.
Eventually you may want a second projector as back up/for changeovers if you ever have showings.
Nice six-second snipe on e-bay.

Thanks for the advice Doug. Yes, I caught it just in time actually--I just happened to see it with 15 seconds or so left.
